The School Counselor will be an integral member of the Health and Wellness Team and will be responsible for providing individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, health and wellness education, and mental health outreach services to enhance the mental health and wellbeing of Hebron Academy students. The School Counselor will be proactive, visible, and deeply connected across all areas of the school community.
Provide individual counseling to students
Provide crisis intervention with 24-hour on-call responsibilities shared with other members of the Mental Health Team
Lead student support groups as indicated
Maintain regular and routine communication with Director of Mental Health and Wellness, Director of Health Services, consulting psychiatrist, collaborating therapists, Director of AGC, and other relevant administrators
Maintain close communication with faculty, staff, parents, and outside treatment providers regarding student mental health concerns, as needed, within the limits of the law and the ethical parameter of confidentiality
Develop social-emotional support plans for students requiring counseling services
Refer students requiring additional mental health supports to outside mental health professionals, as needed
Contribute to the design and implementation of programming to enhance a culture of wellness that fosters student support and self-advocacy
Create and disseminate educational content, provide consultation, and run workshops on issues relative to adolescent/pre-adolescent mental health for a variety of groups, including students, parents, and faculty
Work with others on the Health and Wellness Team to normalize conversations in the greater community regarding mental health
Main records on all counseling sessions
Maintain individual utilization statistics to contribute to Health Services records and statistics
Assist Director of Upper School and other members of the Health and Wellness Team in the development of health programs, policies and protocols.
Education and Experience:
Master's degree in School Counseling, Social Work, or related field
Minimum 3 years' post-masters clinical work
Experience working with adolescents and pre-adolescents in an educational setting.
