St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Ridgeland, MS seeks a dynamic, innovative counselor to help us as we fulfill Our Vision for the Future:

The middle school counselor will be responsible for advocating for students in creating a positive, healthy student experience with a focus on mental health wellness and social-emotional development.
Assessing the needs, strengths, and opportunities for growth of students through a variety of means including one-on-one assessments, conversations, or interviews; small group activities; and observations.
Counseling students with personal, social-emotional, disciplinary, and behavioral issues.
Managing cases and providing support to students and families requiring ongoing support, including advocacy and communication among students, families, teachers, and administrators to support each student’s unique needs.
Coordinating the middle school advisory program, including programming, advisor training, and student advisory activities seeking to create and support a positive, healthy, student-centered learning environment.
Collaborating with the student support services committee to build a healthy student community with a strong emphasis on student wellness.
Building relationships with students across the middle school that result in trust and comfort creating an avenue for students to report concerns.
Serving on appropriate committees as assigned.
Performing day-to-day student supervision duties and engaging fully in all school events that develop the student.
Staying current on trends in independent schools and counseling by taking an active role in professional activities and attending relevant professional meetings and conferences.
The ideal candidate will be a collaborator, innovator, and facilitator as well as possess the following qualifications:
Master’s degree in school counseling, family therapy, social work, or related field
A minimum of five - ten years of adolescent counseling experience in an independent school
Strong understanding and practice of responsive discipline
High degree of cultural competency and demonstrated success in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective, professional relationships with students, faculty, administrators, and parents/guardians
