Kingswood Oxford seeks an enthusiastic, experienced independent school counselor to lead and serve the Middle School community. The successful candidate will be one with high emotional intelligence, a sense of humor, experience working with middle school students and a growth mindset. He or she will thrive in a school community that values the whole student, strong relationships, and collaborative problem-solving. The right candidate will support KO’s mission, traditions and the culture of the Middle School.
The Middle School Counselor promotes and enhances the overall academic mission of the School by providing services that strengthen home/school/community partnerships and reduce barriers to learning. The Counselor contributes to the development of a healthy, safe, equitable and caring environment by advancing the understanding of the emotional and social development of children and the influences of family, community, and cultural differences on student successes by implementing effective intervention strategies. The School Counselor meets with students individually and in groups to address concerns and makes recommendations for additional services as necessary. The School Counselor reports to the Associate Head of Middle School and works closely with the student life team of the Middle School.
Clinical Responsibilities include:
Counsel, support and advice students
Run affinity groups as needed
Provide assistance to teachers to improve student well-being and capacity for social and academic success
Provide assistance to parents to improve student well-being and capacity for social and academic success
Work as a liaison between outside mental health professionals and the School to ensure optimal student functioning and support
Serve as a member of the Student Life Team
Weekly meetings with the Associate Head of the Middle School, the School Nurse and the Director of Academic Skills
Teach Life Skills Classes in Upper Prep, Form 1 and Form 2
Create programs that improve school climate and promote emotional health and wellness
Create educational programs for parents, students and/or faculty when applicable or necessary.

The Counselor should coordinate with the Upper School Counselor and the Consulting Psychologist. The ideal candidates will possess a minimum of a masters’ level clinician status.
