Catherine Cook School seeks an experienced, full-time school counselor, social worker, or psychologist to support our Middle School community. This individual should be passionate about advocating for and supporting students, skilled in nurturing relationships, knowledgeable about the developmental needs and issues for children in grades 5 through 8 and have strong clinical skills. In addition, the ideal candidate will also:
Be energetic, collaborative, well-organized, self-directed, and have excellent time-management skills and flexibility
Be skilled at developing and implementing specialized intervention for individual students and small groups as well as full classroom instruction to nurture social-emotional growth
Be able to establish and nurture relationships with students and parents
Be able to offer parent consultation
Have an understanding of and experience with 504 plans and individualized education plans (ieps)
Have knowledge of professional resources in the mental health field to support the work and the needs that may arise in the school setting
Support the mission and vision of Catherine Cook School and work collaboratively with the parents, faculty, and staff
Have a tremendous capacity to listen with compassion, genuine interest and sincerity, and professionalism to serve the Catherine Cook community well
Current LCSW or LCPC license and master’s degree in social work, counseling, or school psychology (required); and the proper Illinois state licensure for school social work (preferred).
The ability and experiences to deliver professional clinical services to Middle School students at our PS through grade 8 school.
Experience with anxiety, ADHD, ODD, depression, peer issues, illness, separation/divorce and behavioral concerns.
Experience in providing classroom lessons and/or facilitating small groups
The ability to coordinate on-going collaboration and consultation with teachers, parents, administration, community and other private providers as well as others in the mental health field.
An understanding of crisis response and interventions for students in critical need
Training in cultural competence and supporting a diverse range of students
Experience in schools (preferred)
