Graland Country Day School is seeking a K-5 physical education teacher who will also act as a middle school athletics coach for grades 6-8. Coaching all three sports seasons is an expectation. In addition to possessing a degree in physical education, the successful candidate will be an experienced teacher and coach who understands school environments and the unique needs of both lower and middle school students. The ideal candidate thrives when working collaboratively, has innovative ideas, integrates learning and is skilled at working with students, faculty and families. Ideally, the candidate is experienced at creating a culturally responsive classroom.
The physical education curriculum at Graland is an integral part of every child’s education, therefore students have PE every day. The purpose of our program is to foster an appreciation for and a commitment to a lifetime of good health and activity. Our curriculum focuses on skill development, promotes independence and supports positive team building. It also provides opportunities that incorporate critical thinking, integrity and cooperation.

Teaching across the K-8 landscape requires faculty members to be knowledgeable about the developmental stages of growth, be flexible thinkers and able to transition their focus easily. We start with the fundamental belief that teaching is about building relationships. From here, teachers are responsible for fostering in students a love of learning and the development of skills necessary to thrive. Being adept at collaborating not only with departmental teams, but also with core classroom teachers and innovation coaches is an expectation. We celebrate collaboration and faculty who support initiatives outside of their immediate realm. This position has the potential to chaperone trips and lead Middle School clubs.
