St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Potomac, MD seeks a School Counselor to begin August 15, 2020. The mission of St. Andrew’s Episcopal School is to know and inspire each child in an inclusive community dedicated to exceptional teaching, learning, and service.
Position:The School Counselor serves as a resource to students, faculty, administration, and parents of the St. Andrew’s community, primarily grades 6 – 12, on a variety of health issues. The counselor reports to the Head of the Upper School and works directly with the administrative team. This is a full-time position.
Major responsibilities include:
Meeting with students in classrooms and advisor settings to educate students on mental health issues
Short-term/brief therapeutic sessions
Liaison with outside therapists around mental health issues
Faculty advisor for our Peer Leader program
Conducts mental health status exams along with depression and suicide screenings
Plans and presents roundtable discussions for seventh and ninth graders on social and mental health topics

Qualifications: Advanced degree in Social Work, Clinical Psychology, counseling or a related field. Good humor and the ability to work effectively as a team member are also essential.
