JOB PURPOSE: Work closely with staff and administration of districts to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students in assisting them to attain an optimum level of personal and social adjustment. Job Description
RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Assist in the early recognition and prevention of educational programs. 2. Monitor student progress and make informed, timely educational decisions. 3. Participate as a team member in comprehensive evaluation, review and re-evaluation processes. 4. Participate in the development of the student’s Individual Education Plan. 5. Consult with students regarding their learning and behavioral support needs and counsel them as necessary. 6. Refer students and their families to appropriate community agencies and services. 7. Consult with parents, teachers, administrators and others concerning the needs of students and special services that are available. 8. Assist teachers in developing and implementing appropriate classroom behavioral support strategies and social skills instruction. 9. Assist with public awareness activities that lead to a better understanding of the needs of exceptional children. 10. Make classroom presentations to promote social and emotional wellbeing. 11. Assist with the inclusion of exceptional students into the general education classroom. 12. Cooperate with agencies serving students and their families. 13. Order and maintain an adequate inventory of materials and supplies. 14. Maintain appropriate confidential records and provide timely reports. 15. Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques. 16. See that school district policies are observed during all activities. 17. Adhere to all district health and safety policies. 18. Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES 1. Ability to consult, effectively communicate and work with parents, teachers, administrators and supporting agencies concerning the needs and abilities of students. 2. Ability to respond to change productively and manage and assist others in managing change as needed. 3. Ability to support the value of an education, the mission and vision of school districts. 4. Must possess outstanding communication and conceptual skills. 5. Must have good human relations and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to keep confidentiality. 6. Demonstrated commitment to fostering a positive attitude with students, self, and others. 7. Ability to comply with all districts’ policies, rules and regulation. 8. Ability to work in noisy and crowded environments. 9. Ability to work indoors and outdoors year round. 10. Ability to drive long distances support school districts on the Olympic and Kitsap Peninsulas PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 1. Significant: sitting, vision, handling paperwork, repetitive motion, use of personal computer, looking at computer monitor, color vision, moderate noise levels. 2. Frequent: talking, hearing, driving, lifting up to 10 pounds, use of phone, ability to adjust focus. 3. Occasional: standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, squatting, crawling, reaching above the shoulder, lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying, pushing/pulling, use of fax machine/calculator, peripheral/depth perception, exposure to moving parts, very quiet noise levels.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS 1. Masters of Social Work or Specialist Clinical Social Worker degree from an accredited college/university. 2. Current valid license issued by the Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board. 3. Washington State ESA Certification (or ability to obtain). 4. Valid WA State Driver’s License
Additional Salary Information: Salary placement on the certificated salary schedule is dependent on degree level, total credits, and years of verified experience in the role.
