The Work-Study Assistant, under general supervision, will gain knowledge in health education and promotion. The student worker will work closely with the Health Educator to develop evidence-based health promotion and education campaigns. The student worker will work with the campus peer health educators in organizing, delivering and assessing student-centered programming and activities. Knowledge and skills will be developed in audience analysis, developing communication objectives, identifying the proper channels and modes of communication, developing the message strategy, and developing materials. The student worker will also gain experience in research, professional presentations, and professional writing. The student worker will network and collaborate with various departments on campus interested in providing health education on campus and in the community. The student worker will gain valuable knowledge pertaining to how health education and promotion is important in improving healthcare outcomes.
Research health issues, health disparities, health behavior theory, health seeking theory, and population demographics.
Create and design health education/promotion materials such as presentations, brochures, pamphlets, commercials, and posters.
Meet with campus and community stakeholders to develop the message and strategy for the health campaigns.
Deliver health education and promotion programming and activities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Presently enrolled for at Prairie View A&M University for least nine (9) graduate or six (6) undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done.
Must be in good academic standing (SAP) as demonstrated through your college; minimum 2.0 GPA
No prior experience necessary
For work eligibility during a summer term, a student must be enrolled for at least three (3) graduate or undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done or preregistered at least six (6) undergraduate semester hours or nine (9) graduate semester hours for the upcoming fall term.

Excellent communication skills
Comfortable with public speaking
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
