The Pembroke Hill School is seeking a Counselor to join our school counseling team. Depending on the candidate's availability, this position could start 2nd semester 2019-20 (January 2020) or in August with the 2020-21 school year.
There are three school counselors and each assigned to a spefic division and age range. This position will focus on the Wornall campus to serve students’ social and emotional needs in Early Years (2 year olds) through Grade 5. This individual must be bright, insightful, approachable, compassionate, energetic and passionate about working with students, teachers, parents and all other members of the educational community. The school counselor will lead and teach character education initiatives and collaborate on the development of social emotional learning in the early and lower school. Additionally, the counselor will plan and implement parent education opportunities.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities include:
Serve as a student mental health resource and consultant for all students in early years through 5th grade.
Be present, positive, and available to students and assist with resolving peer conflicts.
Assist students dealing with family crisis.
Coordinate PHS Character Education program for students aged 2 yrs old through 5th grade.
Provide support with designing and implementing individual behavior plans for students.
Develop and manage a Service Learning program for the Wornall campus.
Teach Growth & Development to 4/5th grades.
Participate in school related conferences, training, and committee work
Facilitate the transitions between PK/K and 5/6th.
Plan and lead parent education activities
In times of crisis, the Counselor coordinates with the school and community to bring together resources. As the foundation of his/her work, the Counselor adheres to professional and ethical standards within the field. The ideal candidate will be experienced and expert at providing psychological support in a diverse and inclusive school community. Some evening and weekend hours will be necessary.
Key job requirements include:
Certified School Counselor, or MSW, LPC, LCPC required.
School counseling experience at the Elementary level strongly preferred.
Play therapy certification or experience with Pre-K, or Pre-School age a strong plus.
Strong writing skills as well as communication and interpersonal skills.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task effectively.
