Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Health Educator II for the Department of Psychiatry at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Under direction of the Principal Investigator, the Health Educator will train professionals and the public on recognizing opiate overdose, rescue breathing, and naloxone (i.e., opiate overdose medication) administration. The Health Educator also distributes naloxone kits to professionals and the public to prevent opiate overdoses in New Jersey.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Develops and conducts face-to-face trainings, webinars and on-line trainings for professionals and the public on recognizing opiate overdose, rescue breathing, and naloxone (i.e., opiate overdose medication) administration.
Participates in training and other project evaluations.
Contributes to the development of distribution plan and distributes naloxone kits to professionals and the public.
Seeks and responds to training and naloxone distribution opportunities and target communities.
Travels to various agencies, organizations, and communities (e.g., criminal justice, drug treatment, healthcare, syringe access, community center settings) throughout NJ; most travel will be in Central and Southern New Jersey.
Attends and participates in key state and regional meetings regarding coordination of opiate prevention and treatment efforts in New Jersey.
Completes required documentation and reports.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Social Work, Psychology Nursing, or other Healthcare or Human Services or a related field plus two (2) years of experience or a Master’s Degree plus one (1) year of health education experience.
Must have experience working with addictions.
Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Flexibility with work assignments.
Must have own car and valid Driver's license.
Experience in full-time counseling, health care, or training experience.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 15 lbs.
Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
