Curtis School is an independent, coeducational day school for students in grades DK-6, located in Los Angeles, California. The school is seeking a Physical Education Teacher and Coach to fill an opening beginning on October 1, 2019, and ending on January 31, 2020. This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., during this time frame. On game days, the Physical Education Teacher and Coach may be required to work past 4:00 p.m.
The PE Teacher and Coach reports to the Director of Athletics and will teach and coach in Lower and Upper Elementary Divisions. Candidates will be required to coach three (3) teams during both the fall and winter seasons in soccer and basketball. Curtis School participates in a competitive after-school sports league throughout the school year and some games will take place off-campus.
Teaches knowledge and skills in sport-specific areas, as well as locomotor skills, endurance and agility
Evaluates each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge and contribution to team sports
Organizes lessons and activities that promote physical activity
Promotes teamwork and sportsmanship amongst student-athletes
Communicates with colleagues, administrators and parents
Works cooperatively with all PE Teachers/Coaches towards planning a balanced program in Lower and Upper Elementary Divisions
Coaches and manages games after school
Motivates and mentors student-athletes
Bachelor’s degree preferred
At least 3 years of experience teaching and coaching at the elementary or middle school level
Ability to teach and coach multiple sports
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational skills
Energetic and motivated and possesses a strong work ethic
Possesses strong leadership skills
Willingness to work in a collaborative, professional learning environment
