St. John’s Prep is a seeking a full-time School Counselor to work collaboratively with our teachers, and administrators to promote the cognitive, social, behavioral, and emotional development of the St. John’s Prep student body.
Areas of responsibility include
An enthusiastic commitment to school life and to the unique mission of St. John’s Preparatory School.
Provide consultation services as requested by school personnel, parents/guardians, and school administrators to support the development and well-being of students
Along with the other school counselors, educate families about various colleges and universities, the college admissions process, admissions trends, financial aid applications, St. John’s Prep college application procedures, and standardized testing options
Work closely with college representatives and visit college campuses to establish and maintain strong relationships with college admission staffs.
Possess a sophisticated and current understanding of selective college admissions and financial aid.
Serve as a liaison between school personnel and related service providers
Create and maintain thorough and timely reports, data, and other related records
Performs other duties and responsibilities as needed and assigned by the Administration
Prior experience in school guidance, counseling adolescence and/or college counseling
A Master’s degree in School Counseling, Psychology or Social Work preferred
New York State Licensure / Certification
Excellent written and communication skills
Ability to excel in a team environment
Working knowledge of Naviance, the Common Application and standardized testing programs including ACT, SAT, PSAT, and AP.
Deep knowledge of young adult development, learning differences, resources, and current trends in the field

POSITION TYPE: 10 month schedule
WORK HOURS: Teacher work day plus evenings and other times needed to accommodate parent meetings, workshops, testing and other responsibilities.
