Renbrook School seeks a full-time school counselor to join their Student Support Services department beginning in the 2019-20 school year. The ideal candidate will have prior experience as a school counselor or school social worker. Excellent communication skills, ability to build rapport and trust with students, colleagues and families, and strong organizational skills are essential.
Provide a comprehensive program of preventive and responsive services to address students’ academic, personal and social-emotional needs
Provide students with resources and tools that help them foster and advocate for a positive learning environment at school
Provide short-term individual and group counseling
Advocate for student services and students’ best interests
Consult with teachers individually and by teams to evaluate student needs, assess progress, and recommend further supports
Consult with parents and families in support of students
Offer regular classroom guidance lessons
Provide crisis intervention and management services as needed
Collaborate with teachers, administrators and families to ensure students’ academic and social-emotional needs are met
Work collaboratively and confidentially both inside and outside the school to ensure students’ mental health needs are met
Provide referral assistance for families to other agencies, professionals and resources in the community
Offer trainings and workshops to teachers and families
Support each child’s ability to contribute to the community
Support the community’s ability to change and grow
Collect and analyze data to guide program direction and emphasis
Master’s Degree in Social Work or Counseling required
Previous experience working in a school setting desired
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Compassionate and approachable personality
Strong sense of discretion and professionalism
Ability to respond effectively to a diverse student body
Working knowledge of various counseling models, practices and resources
