The MHealthy Tobacco Consultation Service is committed to providing comprehensive, quit tobacco care to our faculty and staff, and to our Michigan Medicine patients. We are seeking an individual who values diversity and inclusion, and understands the challenges faced by our patients on a daily basis. The Health Educator will provide brief bedside tobacco treatment counseling and support to our patients admitted to the University of Michigan Hospital. The Health Educator will provide follow-up to patients interested in quitting tobacco or staying quit post discharge. They will be responsible for documenting intervention outcomes in EPIC and TCS database management system. This individual will actively participate in program development, and provide educational activities with and training of healthcare providers. We are looking for a compassionate individual with a commitment to excellent service delivery.
Provide brief bedside tobacco intervention for inpatients. Accurately document outcome of assessments in EMR and database management system.
Serve as a team member in providing consultation and training for hospital units and departments as well as external healthcare providers.
Participate on program team and contribute to setting program priorities as they relate to inpatient work environment.
Participate in needs assessment and program evaluation.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, nursing, public health/health education or related field. 1-2 years of professional counseling experience with exposure to addiction treatment therapies. Knowledge and understanding of health disparities and social determinants of health.
Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, nursing, public health/health education or related field. Previous work experience in inpatient setting or hospital environment. Tobacco Treatment Specialist certification.
Repetitive movement of hands and fingers – typing and/or writing.
Frequent communications, verbal and written.
Frequent standing and/or sitting.
Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
General and administrative supervision is received from the MHealthy Tobacco Consultation Service Program Manager.
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
