Under general direction, the community health educator plans, develops, implements and evaluates agency comprehensive health education programs; provides technical and in-service training; conducts community health assessments; and performs related work as required.
Defines specific educational objectives for developing community awareness and support for NNHSC programs and services through consultation with department heads and senior managers.
Designs and conducts community assessment to gauge community attitudes, awareness of health services; analyze statistical health information, local demographics, social-cultural trends and other data to define the need for developing and distributing educational media.
Plans and implements educational programs, developing criteria, staffing and material requirements to reach program objectives, departmental goals and to address the public health problems of defined target groups; coordinates activities with other agencies and groups to achieve greater impact, avoid duplication and enhance the effectiveness of the public health education effort.
Evaluates the effectiveness of health education within assigned areas of responsibility, using pre and post program data to measure a program’s effectiveness against pre-established goals and objectives.
Collaborates with and provides technical assistance and advice to community groups, public agencies and professional organizations; confers with schools and universities, provides training on program planning and evaluation; develops and maintains resource files to accommodate requests for speakers, films and literature.
Participates in public education and information efforts to increase awareness and understanding of health programs, services and activities.
Conducts and/or arranges in-service training for departmental staff to keep staff informed of current trends in public health education and the work of other agencies.
Coordinates special health education campaigns and programs.
Produces a monthly health education calendar and monthly health education sessions.
Education: Masters degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in health education or a closely related field. Emphasis on program planning and development a plus.
