Riverdale’s Student Life K-12 Program supports character development and guides students as they make meaning and discover their purpose. Our health curriculum and programming strives to cultivate the student’s awareness of self and others and to reflect on community and belonging, physical and mental health, sexuality and consent, substance abuse prevention, and personal values and decision-making through both a health science and social justice lens.
This full time faculty position is 60% health faculty and 40% school counselor. As health faculty, they will be the course coordinator for all health courses, currently Health 7, 8 and 9. As course coordinator, they will teach multiple sections, develop curricula on behalf of the department, support other teachers who cover sections of Health and develop cross-curricular collaborations. They will take the lead on our consent education and substance abuse prevention programming. Additional responsibilities include collaborating on the development and facilitation of health programming for grades 6 and 10-12 as well as presenting at parent education events.
As school counselor, they will work with our counseling department in supporting a caseload of individual students and facilitating student groups, predominantly in grades 9-12, and work with the peer leadership program. They will join a department that includes a department chair, a full time middle and upper school counselor and a part time middle and upper school psychologist.
