Position Description: Health and Disability Fellowship
The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), a national organization representing the approximately 2,800 local health departments (LHDs) nationwide, has an immediate opening for two Health and Disability Fellows.
This is a paid fellowship slated to start in September 2017 and run through June 29th, 2018. The fellowship includes a stipend not to exceed $5,000 and travel expenses to at least one conference or meeting. ASL interpreter, captioning services, or other accommodations are available upon request.
The fellows will either be housed at the NACCHO headquarters in Washington, DC or may work remotely from their graduate school location.
Hours: Flexible, ideally 15-20 hours a week during regular office hours (8:30 am - 5:00 pm).

The fellows will be responsible for supporting the Health and Disability project team members in meeting the following objectives: 1) Increasing the number of localities and/or states thoughtfully including people with disabilities into mainstream public health promotion activities and 2) Educating the public health workforce on the inclusion of people with disabilities into program activities and interventions.
As a part of the fellowship, the fellows will receive mentorship and guidance from NACCHO’s experienced health and disability staff. The fellows will:
1.Receive guidance on development and execution of project deliverables; 2.Be introduced to local-, state-, and national-level disability and health partners through meetings and conferences; and 3.Be evaluated on their awareness and knowledge of health and disability issues through administration of a pre- and post-assessment.
Nature of Work and Associated Work Duties: Work duties may include but are not limited to: •Attending and/or presenting at trainings, webinars, meetings, and conferences, and representing NACCHO to external health and disability partners; •Representing the Health and Disability project at internal NACCHO meetings; •Providing technical assistance to state and local health departments; •Developing resources, guides, toolkits, and web-based trainings for state and local health departments; •Assisting with the development of project summary and progress reports; •Summarizing information for internal and external dissemination (e.g. meeting summaries, NACCHO publications, electronic newsletters, and Web sites); •Communicating with NACCHO staff, members, and partners to carry out project activities; and •Providing other support to the projects as needed.
Qualifications Graduate student (Masters or PhD students) in public health, health education, or related field preferred. Students currently in school and who recently completed school will be considered. Prefer students with background or interest in disability/disability studies. Students with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.
Knowledge •Knowledge of office practices, procedures and equipment •Familiarity with public health practice and policy •Experience working in the disability field is preferred •Knowledge of health promotion and/or emergency planning and preparedness is preferred
